Who uses Physical Therapy?
Those who benefit most from Physical Therapy are individuals who are in need of restoring injured body parts, increasing flexibility, or building strength. We are a field of highly educated and trained, licensed health care professionals who assist patients with improving their daily function while reducing pain. In many cases, we are able to assist patients with avoiding costly surgeries and preventing further injuries.
What should I bring with me to my first appointment?
Please bring any records from your doctor, a list of your medications, allergies and a list of prior doctors. We also recommend bringing in a list of any questions or concerns you may have. Please make sure that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment so that you can provide us the necessary paperwork and insurance information to put you in our system. To save time, you can also print the Intake Forms located on our forms page, and bring them completed to your appointment.
What should I wear?
We highly recommend you bring comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing or athletic wear to our physical rehab clinic because oftentimes we will be stretching or exercising you. Your clothes should also allow us to evaluate your area of injury, so please dress accordingly. As for footwear, we suggest comfortable, closed-toe shoes, preferably sneakers. If you have any questions, please contact us prior to your first appointment.
How long does each visit take?
The initial visit takes a little longer than the subsequent visits due to the paperwork that you need to fill out, in addition to the completion of the assessment process. Normally, evaluations are 60-90 minutes and treatment sessions are 45-60 minutes.
How long will I need physical therapy?
Your Physical Therapist will dicuss your diagnosis and recommended plan of care at your evaluation. You will need to attend physical therapy sessions until you and your therapist decide that you have reached your desired level of function or that further therapy would not be beneficial. Often therapy will also be monitored by your physician.
Will you keep in contact with my doctor?
Aware Physical Therapy recognizes that frequent open communication is essential to acheiving success with your PT program. We will provide information to you, your healthcare provider, your insurance company, etc., as it is required by law and authorized by you. After your initial evaluation, the PT will send a written report to your healthcare provider regarding the findings of the exam, the assessent of the injury and a detailed plan of care with individualized goals. We will continue to update your healthcare provider with written progress notes before each re-evaluation appointment. (As a result, we ask that you please inform us about each upcoming physician's appointment.)
Will my insurance pay for therapy?
In North Carolina certain insurance plans allow you to directly see a Physical Therapist without prescription from a Physcian or a physician's representative. Please contact us and we can help guide you through the process. We participate in a majority of healthcare insurance plans; however, if Aware is not in your network, your plan may have out-of-network benefits that allow you to access our high quality care with some level of coverage.
Do I need a physician's referral for physical therapy?
If you are discussing Physical Therapy with your healthcare provider or insurance company, please remember you always have the right to choose where you receive your Physical Therapy services. Be sure to let your healthcare provider know that Aware Physical Therapy is your first choice when it comes to your rehabilitation needs.
